New AI Technologies of 2023 | Mona Ramamurthy

The rapid emergence and evolution of AI technologies last year are predicted to impact various sectors, including cybersecurity and automotive.

The popularity of AI grew last year as the public and businesses started to see its potential applications.

OpenAI, for instance, released several public demos of its AI tools. One of these is ChatGPT, which caught the attention of Microsoft Corp.
Due to the increasing number of people using text-to-image tools, such as Stable Diffusion and Dall-E2, the creation of AI-powered art became popular.

According to a prediction made by Dell Technologies Ireland, AI could become the main innovation of 2023. It noted that many organizations are already using the technology to improve their support and data management processes.

This year, the sector has continued to grow. According to reports, OpenAI is in talks to raise almost $29 billion, while Apple is developing an AI-based audio narration tool. Microsoft is also working on a model that can perform voice impersonations in just three seconds.

As the technological advancements of AI continue to accelerate, experts have predicted the technology's evolution in 2023.

Natural Language Processing
Natural language processing is a type of AI that teaches computers to understand speech and text. Last year, some of the services launched using this technology included Meta's Galactica and ChatGPT.

According to estimates, the market for natural language processing will reach over $341 billion by 2030. This technology is used in various applications, such as speech recognition and chatbots.

Cybersecurity
According to experts, AI could significantly affect the cybersecurity industry in the next few years by improving the systems' defenses and creating new opportunities for criminals.

Kelly Ahuja, the chief executive officer of software company Versa Networks, believes AI and machine learning could help improve the efficiency of the cybersecurity team by allowing them to respond faster to threats.

He noted that organizations could stay up-to-date with the evolving threat landscape by implementing the right cybersecurity solutions and platforms.

Autonomous Vehicles
In recent years Lyft started offering driverless cars in Las Vegas. In California, Cruise, a self-driving car company, was the first to secure the necessary approval to operate a taxi service in the state. However, a massive traffic jam developed at an intersection during the operation of its autonomous vehicles.

A study by IDTechEx revealed that the number of companies working on self-driving car technology has started to decrease. The research firm noted that several companies, such as Local Motors, have already shut down their operations due to the lack of interest in developing driverless cars.

Despite the various issues that have affected the development of driverless cars, IDTechEx noted that the technology still has considerable potential to transform the transportation industry.
